I have now found a hobby that I love. There is just one problem. I live in Hawaii and there isn't much snow here!!!! Last week I went up to Muana kea (our Mountain) and tried snowboarding for the first time, it is addicting. I had a lot of fun and think everyone should try it sometime.

Today is the day Martin Luther nailed his 95 Theses (95 things the Catholic church was doing wrong, against scripture) to the Wittenburg church in 1517.

The Reformation lasted nearly a hundred years, God used many men including William Tyndale, John Knox, John Calvin, Martin Luther and many other men to bring the bible to the commoner.

It is amazing how God can use only a few men if they trust in God and are willing to die for Him.

Isaiah 4:8-The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever.

My Dad and Josh stayed behind so they could finish up some work. They will be back in two weeks, we all miss them very much!!!
The week before we came back to Hawaii we managed to make 13 jars of blackberry jam. Our property in Oregon is loaded with blackberries...yum. We will give some of the jam to our friends here since there are no blackberries in Hawaii.

Tomorrow my family and I will be flying to Oregon (Lord willing) for two months! I am very excited, we are going to be very busy:) (As always) I will try to post a few times while I am gone but it will be difficult since we won't have internet.

For Independence Day we went to a fire work show with our friends. We all had a great time, I was disappointed though because out of all the music the bands were playing they never sang our national anthem or even one patriotic song! Something is very wrong with that ☹

On Saturday I went to my recital, I played Fur Elise and In Schubert Day (a less famous song)

I was nervous as usual, but seemed to forget the the audience was there once I started playing.

I am sorry I haven't posted in soooo many months, I guess I have just been lazy.

If you would like to give a few ideas that might help....since just blogging about my life isn't too exciting:)

Father Daughter Adventure

Two weeks ago I got back from a weekend trip around the Big Island. I went with my Dad and a few other families.

It was my friend's sixteenth birthday (her brothers organized it)

The first place we went to was South Point, the southern most point in the United States. At South Point there is a forty foot cliff that drops straight down into the water! Most of the other girls jumped off but I didn't have the nerve. Instead, I climbed down a old ladder right into the ocean. The swells were a little big, it was fun! There are caves that are under the cliffs that you could play in when the water is calm.

We hiked about a mile and came to Green Sands beach. It had green sparkles in the sand but it wasn't very green. On the hike back I found a spot by the ocean that was solid green sand. I found an old coconut shell and old water bottle to fill with the green sand and saved it. The last place we stopped at was Rainbow falls. Behind Rainbow falls there are big pools of water and cliffs of all sizes. I jumped off these cliffs, they were twenty feet high. That was the first time I went around the entire Big Island....that I can remember. It was fun.

It was a windy day so keeping balance was a little challenge.

A trip with my Dad

I took a two week trip with my Dad to Oregon(previous post), we got back last week.

Here are some pictures of my trip.

We went to the beach, it was a little stormy,

And then finally.....IT SNOWED

It was sooooo pretty....and a lot of fun!

For the 31st we handed out gospel tracks and candy to all the trick or treaters,

We made grave stones to put in our front yard and wrote bible verses on them.

One of the grave stones said "Where will you go when you die?" and Anyone whose name was not found written in the book of life was thrown into the lake of fire. Revelation 20:15. We do not celebrate Halloween, we just thought it was a good opportunity to tell others about the Lord since there were kids coming to our door anyway, and to get them to ask themselves where will I go when I die?

On the grave stone above where it says "U too" was really a mistake because my Mom forgot the U

in the word righteous, so we fixed it!

These are the first slippers I have crocheted, I was getting bored with dishcloths :)

The ribbons are different colors because I ran out of cream ribbon, I will replace the yellow when I get more cream!

Family V.S Friends

I have noticed one of the differences of living here in Hawaii rather than Oregon.

When we lived in Oregon our closest friends were ten miles away, we went to town once a week and we were at home most of the time. In my free time I would hike, play a game, make a fort, sleep outside or any activity with my brothers.

They were all I had and were my best friends.

Here in Hawaii I have noticed a difference, we live in a neighborhood where we have friends twenty feet from our front door. In our free time we are constantly interacting with them. There are girls my age and boys my brothers age, so when I am going to bake, ride bikes, draw, play guitar or anything like that I am usually with my friends not my family. I need to work on spending more time with my brothers rather than my friends. Friends should not be our priority, our family should come first.

God never makes mistakes; He put you and me in the perfect family for us.

God made our siblings to challenge and encourage us and us to do the same.

My new Piano!

I have been practicing on key board for the last 5 years, it is better than nothing but still nothing like a real piano.

A couple of days ago we found a piano for sale on craigslist and we were able to get it!

It is a cute little Thayer piano, I am very happy to have a real piano again.

The Piano is out of tune and has a few sticky keys

but we will have that fixed next week!

I am not sure what to post so I will post about what I have been doing.

We have been getting ready for this next school year, we start September 1st.

It is always hard getting together a new schedule, I keep thinking that there is not enough time in the day!

This year I will start private violin lessons instead of group lessons, I think I will like that.

My Dad has been teaching me how to play the guitar, I love it!

We just started swim team, it is fun and refreshing, I have really been enjoying the diving (off the diving board)

Swimming and diving only lasts until November.

I will be happy to start school again, I always feel so lazy during summer!

Soft pretzels hmmm!

This morning I made a batch of soft pretzels, they are very fun to make!

First I had to warm milk, sugar, salt and oil

Then I had to mix it with flour and yeast.

After I mixed it I kneaded it until it was smooth.

I baked them at a high heat for 4 min then boiled in salt water.

I baked them one last time and then......they were done!

They were good but needed a little more salt : )

I am not usually interested in lizards but this morning I walked out side and right in front of me

were these two lizards, that surprised me a little : )

I looked them up on the internet and found out their name, which is the Green Anole.

The Tsunami Warning

Most of you probably heard of the tsunami warning on February 27th

for Hawaii.

The last tsunami that hit Hawaii was back in the 1960's, it also was triggered by a earth quake in the

Philippines.

My family and our neighbors were waiting impatiently for the tsunami, when my Dad had the idea to go and watch this once in a life time event.

We live about a quarter mile from the ocean but on a hill, so our house was very safe. Also at the ocean

near our house there is a hundred foot cliff.

So my Dad , Josh, a couple other friends of ours and I headed down toward the cliff.

At first I thought it was a crazy idea, until I realized the chances of it actually getting us was very little.

We all rushed down the hill hoping not to miss the tsunami, we sat at the cliffs for over a hour and seeing no big waves gave up.

No tsunami hit, there were some unusual waves but they were very small and harmless.

I got some nice pictures out of it!

A new sewing machine

I have been going to a sewing class for the last two months, I would start a project and not be able to finish it until the next sewing class.

I am not very patient when time comes to sewing so I went ahead and bought a sewing machine.

I am very happy with it and hope it lasts a long time.

It can embroider the alphabet, and many other nice stitches.

It is a "Brother" sewing machine.

It is hard buying things

we already have in Oregon,

It is fun to

A beautiful birthday present

For my birthday I received a package in the mail from my Granny.

I watched it for a week waiting to open it , and finally the day came!

Inside, wrapped in fabric was a beautiful silver bracelet fashioned by a silversmith in Iran in 1943.

My great Grandpa designed it by telling the silversmith what he wanted and how he wanted it done

and he would do it just how Grandpa wanted it.

The bracelet was purchased by my great Grandpa Peter Hansen while he was stationed in Iran during World War Two. He had the name Dot put on it for my great Grandma Dorthy Hansen.

This bracelet was passed down to my Granny (The daughter of Peter and Dorthy Hansen)

and now to me.

This is very special to me and some day I will pass it down to my children.

~My Piano Recital~

On Saturday I had a piano recital, I played two songs.

The First Noel and Silent Night. It's funny how I am not really nervous until I am on stage, then I am suddenly very nervous!

This is the third piano recital I have been in.

Italian Tomato Bread

My friends and I experimented yesterday,

we made bread but this time added tomato sauce to it.

It actually turned out really good!

Here is the recipe

Italian Tomato Bread

2 1/4 tsp yeast

3 tsp sugar

3/4 cup water

let the yeast rise for at least 3 min

(In separate bowl )

2 tbsp olive oil

1/2 tsp salt

1/2 cup tomato sauce

3/4 tbsp Italian seasoning
2 3/4 cup flour

combine the

yeast

water

sugar
preheat oven to:375
knead the dough for ten min
(unless you have a mixer)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Let the dough rise for 40 min
sprinkle garlic powder and salt on top

put it in the oven for 30 min or until browned

This recipe makes one small loaf
so you might want to double it :)

After about 20 pictures we finally got a good one.

Caleb kept getting up while the picture was being taking, to see it because we have a digital camera.

It is not very clear though....I hope you can see it well enough.

Early Christmas Presents

About two weeks before Christmas we went to the humane society

and picked out two little terrier puppies!

We first saw them on their website,

my Mom was actually the one who wanted a puppy.

The reason we got two was because there was a buy one get one

free deal, my Dad liked that!

My brother Josh has a cat he really loves in Oregon,

so he got a puppy here in stead of bringing his cat over :)

Scotty, is the boy dog who has kind of became mine.

My First Give Away

They are the prettiest colors I have used!

The hot pad is twice as thick as the wash cloth

and works well,

Star Gazing on Mauna Kea

For the last week and a half Granny and Grandpa have been visiting us.

My Grandpa has been studying astronomy, he has been teaching us what

he learned. We decided to take him up to our tallest mountain called Mauna Kea which means white mountain. It is fourteen thousand feet tall, and is the tallest mountain in the United States.

Two of our good friends (Hannah and Josh) who live next door to us came with us up to the mountain. My Grandpa had already been to the top but this time we were going to star gaze! A couple weeks ago it had snowed up there so there was just a little bit of snow left. We watched the sun set and when it was completely dark we went down to the nine thousand foot level to look at the stars.

It was beautiful up there!

At the nine thousand foot level there are some telescopes that any one can use and a star show to point out all the constellations and give some facts.

We drove for about 45 min before we headed up the mountain,

The unusual thing about Mauna Kea is that you can drive to the very top, at the top it was about 36 degrees.

It was quite a shock going from 75 degrees to 36, Hannah and I stayed in the truck most of the time. We were too cold!

At the very top of the mountain there is 40% less oxygen than where we live so if you run around at the top you would most likely faint.

The people at the observatory suggest that no one under 13 go up to the very top just to be safe, My parents let me go up to the top but will not let my younger brothers (Peter and Caleb) go until they get older.

We had fun up there, and might go up again when it snows!

My little brothers

Caleb, is my three year old brother and a very wild one! Friday I was in town selling dishcloths with my friends.

While in the car on the way home my friend's Dad told me that

my Mom was at the hospital with Caleb because they thought he dislocated his elbow!

I was a little shocked but over all not very surprised.

When I got home I watched my brother Peter because Momma and Daddy were

gone. A little later my Mom called and said Caleb broke his arm badly. It felt like it was the end of the world, Caleb is the first (child) in our family to break a bone so this was a big thing to me.

I was trying get something done in the house and Peter was in the backyard in a tree that he climbs all the time.

I heard a scream I ran down to find him running up the hill half covered in dirt!

He fell from a height of fifteen foot. As I washed him up I kept telling him "you can't break your

arm" your not allowed to!

He was OK in a hour, but every time I looked at him he was holding his arm.

He didn't break his arm but probably sprained his wrist.

When Mama and Daddy came home Caleb's arm was all wrapped up but not in a cast,

they were not sure if he needed surgery.

The next day, Momma and Daddy took Caleb to a hospital about a hour away.

Josh and I had a swim meet at our pool, so are friends came and picked us up while our next door friends (neighbors) watched Peter.

At the swim meet I was worrying about Caleb. Momma called again and Caleb

had had surgery, he now has two pins in his arm that will come out in three weeks.

He will get his cast tomorrow.

Caleb has gotten used to his arm, and tells every one "Caleb's arm broken".

He has found some disadvantages to a broken arm, when we tell him he can't go in the water

and he tells us "almost better!"

He is doing great, but please pray for him.

Our Life

Here in Hawaii we have been busy, in a good way.

My Brothers and I started school on September 1st, and the following week Josh and I joined a swim team. We have learned a lot already.
I have enjoyed swimming even though it's what makes us the most busy.
I guess it is a good skill to have when live on an island and are your surrounded by water!
Three times a week we practice our swim strokes for one hour. Every two weeks we have a swim meet; which is where we go and compete with other teams. Fortunately it doesn't last all year, swim team ends by November 1st.

School has been going well, I'm happy to find eighth grade easy so far:) I know it gets challenging once you get into it. I have also started piano lessons again, it is going well. My new teacher is nice and teaches well. I'm thankful for piano lessons very much it's just hard changing teachers. I miss Lauren teaching me
but I will get used to my new teacher. Another thing I'm trying to get used to is my key board, it just isn't like a piano. I guess it's better than nothing:)

During all this busyness and driving around I have picked up a new hobby of crocheting. I crochet dishcloths, I seem to be stuck on them! I have made so many that I got a idea to sell them at a Christmas parade in December. I am not positive it will work out, but I am preparing. I still need to get the details about being a vendor at the parade. There are usually lots of tables selling all sorts of things. I have managed to crochet almost thirty dishcloths, after the
possibility of selling them I seemed to take off.

My Mom and I started a "Keepers of the Home" ladies day, where my Aunt Tammie my Mom and I learn how to do a project and study to be godly ladies to serve the Lord. We are currently working on a project called candle wicking, it has nothing to do with candles it is a type of embroidery, simply tying knots! We are going to make twelve patches and turn them into lap quilts. Candle wicking got it's name from back in the colonial days when the women created a new craft with the supplies they had on hand; muslin and candle wicks.

We started a book called "Raising Maidens Of Virtue" it talked about not being influenced by the world but to grow in the Lord and be who he has called us to be as ladies. We have been trying to fit it in our schedule every week but we're going to have to wait until are swim team is over.

Our Road trip

Last week my family and I took a road trip, we started out early in the morning and drove for about four hours before we stopped for a rest. We drove along the Columbia gorge for a long time, Caleb my youngest brother slept half the time and when he woke up he looked around and said "where are we" Finally we got to Spokane Washington where we spent three days with our good friends Auntie Barb and Uncle Jake. We met them in Hawaii and then they moved to Spokane WA.

We had a lot of fun with them, they have always been like grandparents to us.

The days flew by and we drove to Sandpoint Idaho, we spent a couple of days with a family we have known for a long time. They live next to a ski resort, we went on a Ski lift that was that was really fun.

Are friends had been telling us that they heard that there was a lot of huckle Berry's in the forests around, so we decided to go huckle berry hunting.

We spent about two hours looking in forests and along roads and found

nothing, we were going to try again tomorrow.

The next day we tried again, we went deeper into the woods this time. We spent another hour

looking and on our way out of the forest we saw someone with a full bag of huckle berries!!

We asked him where did you find those!!!!!and he said " three minutes up that trail" and he was pointing in the oposite

direction of the way we went. So we finally found lots of huckle berry's. We went home with a full basket.

We left Idaho on our sixth day and headed for home.

It took us eight hours to get home,

I am happy to be home.

Time Flys

It seems like the months flew by too fast,

on August 26th my family and I fly back to Hawaii.

I will miss Oregon but mostly the people,

I have some things I am looking forward to,

last time we were in Hawaii I had a small store

outside my bedroom window :)

I sold felt animals, lemonade, Popsicles

and many other things. I also made my own

weekly newspaper which was a lot of fun.

I am planning and preparing on doing this all again.

My Dad just got home on Wednesday we are all very happy

to have him home!

A Realy Good Horse

Midnight is a horse that we are leasing, he is really good

"once you catch him". I have mostly ridden him bare back

because I haven't learned how to saddle him myself yet.

The owner was boarding him on our property

but now we are leasing him. When I ride

him he seems to have a good idea of

where he wants to go, he listens to me very

well. Midnight is a Tennessee Walker he is

a nine year old gelding. He does not like

fly spray. Yesterday we were trying to put

fly spray on him and he took off running,

he came when I called.

Its amazing to be on a huge strong animal

and be in control .

For as long as I can remember I have

been fascinated with horses.

For the fourth we went to the Sacajawea lake, there was this one booth that was selling violins. So we looked at them and they looked real nice, we got one, fairly cheap.Today we took it to church so that Mrs Brown could look at it, she says the bow isn't .....good but the violin its self she thinks is pretty good, she cant tell very well because the bow is a little loose and bounces. I look at it every hour, its very pretty.(I'm excited!!)

THE VBS IS HERE!!!!

Yesterday was the first day of the VBS,it is going very well,

the skit is also.There are about 25 kids and 6 of them are

my cousins, all the kids really enjoy it ;)It has been going

so fast its hard to believe its already the end of the second

day. Tomorrow is my Mom and Dads day to teach.

Each day has been a lot of fun and all the kids are learning lots!

The Surprise

Yesterday was my Mom and Dads 16th wedding anniversary.

My Dad flew back from Hawaii yesterday, so my Mom surprised him

by taking him to a hotel for the night.He was surprised!!They came home today,

our Granny came to watch us, she brang our cousin Trekel with her.

We all REALLY missed Daddy and are so happy to have him home!!

I enjoy music very much, I love to play on the piano.

when I'm bored I find myself playing away...

I take piano lessons from Miss Lauren Cash,

she is a wonderful teacher...I love it! In September I'm hoping to

take violin lessons. I am very excited!!! I know I will like it:)

I really enjoy listening to or playing instruments, my favorite

hymns are Fairest Lord Jesus, Sound The Battle Cry, Blessed Assurance

and many others. I love to worship God and praise his name!
